Starry Charlotte Night

This past Saturday, my good friends at school and I went downtown to celebrate Beth's 30th birthday (Beth is Zack's mom... little Z has been on the blog many times and is one of Alaina's best friends). Beth really wanted to go to a painting class and she chose the Charlotte skyline inspired by Starry Night (by Vincent van Gogh). It was so much fun and we created some really great paintings.

The whole gang. I think Beth's painting (top left) and Buzzee's painting (top right) turned out the best; but they are the artistic ones of the group. Beth teaches music and Buzzee teaches art.

This is how I started. We painted the swirls in the sky first and then we painted the skyline and the foreground black.

Next, we added shadows to the buildings and the stadium (the stadium looks like the bridge from this angle). We also painted the street.

Then, we really added some color! Finally, we signed the painting and we were done! This is my finished painting... not too bad!
I had so much fun painting with my friends. Harry and I have friends who actually own a company that offers painting classes, so we are going to look into doing one with our friends in the future.

Fun in the Snow

Temperatures have warmed up in North Carolina and a lot of our snow is melting, but we were still able to go out and enjoy the snow a few days ago. Here are our snow pictures from Thursday.

The first 2 are mid-storm. The snow was really coming down. We got around 4-5 inches on Thursday on top of about 4 inches of snow and an inch of sleet from Wednesday.

We have a pretty deep snow drift right int he corner of our garage. It looked pretty cool as we opened the garage door.

This ruler read almost 9 niches. The snow was still falling at this time.

This was a pretty common scene on Thursday... Alaina ate a TON of snow!

Harry ate some, too.

This is why schools and business were closed. This is a pretty busy road; it didn't get plowed until after dark on Thursday. (Our side of the neighborhood never did get plowed, so we had to wait until late yesterday before we ventured out.)

We built a princess snowman.

Then, we decided she needed a family. So we have a dad, mom (princess) and a baby snowman.

These were pictures Harry took of the pond and font entrance of our neighborhood.

Heavier Snow Videos!!

It is snowing even harder now! We can barley see the main street that runs behind our house. I'm adding 2 more videos so you can see how much snow we are getting. It seems like the snow gets heavier by the minute... I dare say we have white-out conditions right now!

This is the view from the front of our house.

This is the view from the back of our house.

It's snowing so hard that even Joey, who is always trying to get out, doesn't want to go outside.

Snowy Videos

It is still snowing here in Huntersville. Last night our weather changed over to sleet... lots and lots of sleet. It was so loud in the house, thankfully the Olympics were on so we had something to take our mind off the noise.

This video was taken last night. You can't see much, but you can hear the sleet.

This is the snow starting back up this morning. It is so beautiful outside.

Winter Weather

NC is getting some pretty heavy winter weather today, which means we were all home from work and school! We spent some of our time (but not a lot since it is windy and cold) outside playing in the snow.

Alaina, all ready for the snow (and fueling up with a muffin).

5 inches so far

Snow Angel #1

Snow Angel #2

Joey wanted to come outside so badly.

So, Alaina threw snow at him.

We are off again tomorrow! (There goes my spring break.)
